The P.A.K.R.A.T. Reading Program (People and Kids Reading A Lot Together) at Discovery enables all students to choose a P.A.K.R.A.T. book every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to bring home to share with their family. The goal is to have all of our students spend 15-20 minutes reading at home every night. Students can read alone, or can share the P.A.K.R.A.T. book with an adult or sibling. They can choose to read any book, Library, chapter, or picture book instead of reading the book they choose to bring home. When your student finishes reading, an adult must sign the reading calendar to indicate that the student did spend time reading at home. Students must remember to bring the P.A.K.R.A.T. book back to school every morning so the books can be exchanged with someone else in the class.
Thanks for your support in helping your student become a better reader! One of the most important things families can do to help children succeed in school is to spend time reading together at home every day.
Discovery uses a calendar to have parents/guardians sign off on. Each night your child reads, you can put your initials on that date on the calendar. We ask that the calendar comes back to school at the end of the round. Each calendar will state with the round starts and ends.
